AMERICAN CONCERT THEATRE
A.C.T., now in it's ninth season, is a project founded by Ed Shockley at the Community Education Center(C.E.C.) 3500 Lancaster Avenue in Philadelphia under the auspieces of former C.E.C. Executive director Arlene Wooley. The company is dedicated to offering low cost high quality theatre by presenting elaborately staged script in hand concert readings using professional actors. Highlights of past seasons include RAZORMEN by Felicia Rivers, GOOBE DUST by Annette Sanders (both went on to New York productions) and Radio Plays by Tony Buck and William Hollenbach (which garnered national awards at the Midwest Radioplay Lab).

SHORT PLAY WORKSHOP
A generous gift from the PA. COUNCIL for the ARTS allows A.C.T. to offer a ten part short play workshop beginning SUNDAY OCTOBER 15TH at 2:30 p.m. The limited enrollment master class is open to writers aged 18 or older. Led by multiple award winning playwright/screenwriter Ed Shockley, M.F.A., the workshop will assist writers in completing a folio of short works then present a final showcase of selected excerpts December 17th, 2006 in conjunction with A.C.T.'s annual HOLIDAY TALES closing performance. HOLIDAY TALES

This annual celebration of year ending holidays has become a CEC tradition. It is being directed by veteran lary moten who is collecting stories, songs, short plays and monolugues exploring the international quality of celebration. Director lary moten stars with award winning author ED SHOCKLEY in a reprise preformance of A.C.T.'s most successful show exploring the indomitable spirit of freedom. Nat Turner, Modecai Vanunu, Lucinda Williams, Nelson Mandela and more appear in moments of triumph and crisis.
